The Restless Writer

Personal project · Video essays · Film & television analysis

The Restless Writer is my personal YouTube project exploring film, television, and character-driven storytelling. I write essays that connect structure, symbolism, and character choices with practical lessons for other writers.

My role

As creator, researcher, and scriptwriter, I developed topics, researched the stories and their production, wrote titles, and built voiceover scripts with visual cues. The work combines entertainment analysis with writing craft, from character arcs and themes to screenwriting structure.

How I approach each script

Start with a storytelling question. I use a film or television series to explore a specific technique, drawing on frameworks such as the Hero’s Journey and seven-act structure when they help explain the story.

Research beyond the plot. I look at creators’ intentions, production choices, character development, and the audience’s experience, rather than stopping at a recap.

Write for a fellow writer. The scripts balance close analysis with accessible language, walking the viewer through how the story works.

Plan for other formats. I build sections that can also work as essays, short videos, carousels, and other supporting content.

Format

Full video scripts range from 8–20 minutes, combining commentary, narrative analysis, and writing lessons. The material can also be adapted for blogs, social posts, and podcast formats.
