Dr. Olufemi Fadeyibi Mentoring Program

Overview

In this project, I was tasked with writing two video scripts and a letter to a school principal to advertise "Donovan's World," a mentoring workbook and graphic novel designed to help Latino and African American men overcome adversity and succeed by making better choices.

The project aimed to highlight the importance of mentorship and education in transforming the lives of young Black and Latino males.

Project Objectives

  • Highlight Key Messages: Emphasize the challenges faced by Black and Latino males and how the workbook can help them.

  • Invite Participation: Write a compelling letter to school principals to invite Dr. Olufemi Fadeyibi to demonstrate the workbook and conduct workshops.

Target Audience

  • Primary: Young Black and Latino males.

  • Secondary: Educators, school administrators, and mentors.

Challenges

  • Addressing Stereotypes: The scripts needed to tackle and reshape limiting stereotypes about Black and Latino males.

  • Conveying Impact: It was crucial to show the transformative power of the workbook and mentorship program.

  • Engaging Diverse Audiences: The content had to resonate with both the students and the educators who would support the initiative.

My Role

  1. Research: Understanding the challenges faced by the target demographic and the impact of mentorship programs.

  2. Script Development: Crafting compelling narratives for the videos and the letter.

  3. Collaboration: Working closely with Dr. Olufemi Fadeyibi to ensure the scripts aligned with his vision and message.

Script Highlights

Introduction Video Script: This script opened with a powerful hook, featuring a conversation where students were asked if anyone ever told them they could be doctors or lawyers, followed by the impactful question, "But what if they did tell you that you could be more?"

The video showcased the workbook's potential to inspire and transform lives.

Anyone ever told you that you look like a doctor?”
”No.”
”A lawyer?”
”No.”
”What have they told you?”
”That I can play ball.”
”But what if they did tell you that you could be more than a basketball player or more than an athlete?
